कविता शहर के लोगों की भागदौड़ दिखाती है—कोई तेज़ तो कोई धीरे चलता है; कोई बस, टैक्सी या सबवे से आता-जाता है; ऊँची इमारतों व दुकानों में लिफ्ट से ऊपर-नीचे होता है; बारिश में छाता लिए लोग दिखते हैं। कोई मुस्कुराता है, कोई चिड़चिड़ा होता है, बहुत-से लोग भीड़ में बिना कुछ कहे निकल जाते हैं। संदेश: शहर में हम रोज़ बहुत-से लोगों को देखते हैं, पर उन्हें जानते नहीं—फिर भी सब मिलकर शहर की धड़कन बनते हैं।

1) Which modes of transport do people use to move around in the city?
Buses, taxis, subways (metro), elevators within buildings; and people also walk on sidewalks.
2) What are the things that people carry with them while moving around?
Hats, umbrellas (when it rains), bags, and sometimes nothing at all—just themselves.
3) Where all do you find these very busy people?
On sidewalks, in buses and taxis, on the subway, inside tall buildings, and in stores below.
4) Where have you seen crowds of people?
Busy markets, bus stops, metro stations, school gates, festivals, and fairs.
5) Why do you think all these people are in a hurry?
They are going to work or school, catching transport, meeting deadlines, or escaping the rain.

I go straight out of the school gate, turn right, cross the road at the signal, walk between the park and the library, then turn left. My home is near the corner, beside the bakery and in front of the clinic.
15) How would you send a similar message to someone today?
By postcard, email, or a message in a bottle; or by writing my name and address on a paper boat and floating it downstream.
16) How did people send messages earlier, and how now? (model)
Earlier: letters, pigeons, messengers, telegraphs. Now: phone calls, SMS, email, social media, instant messaging.
17) Travel Time: answer any two (model).
I went to the hills with my family. We carried warm clothes and snacks. The best thing was the waterfall near our cottage.
18) Make sentences with two new words from the lesson. (model)
The elevator was crowded. We waited on the sidewalk for a taxi.
19) More fun — which is more fun: aeroplane or ship? (model)
Aeroplane is faster and exciting above the clouds; ship is slower but fun for long views. I prefer the aeroplane for thrill.
