कंगलैपाक (मणिपुर) के दयालु राजा-रानी अपनी प्रजा, पक्षियों, पशुओं और पेड़ों का समान ख्याल रखते थे। उत्तराधिकारी चुनने के लिए घुड़दौड़ व कौशल की परीक्षा हुई—तीनों राजकुमारों ने पेड़ के साथ ताकत का प्रदर्शन किया: किसी ने भाला भोंका, किसी ने ऊपर से छलांग लगाई, किसी ने पेड़ उखाड़ दिया। पाँच वर्ष की राजकुमारी सनतौम्बी ने पेड़ और पक्षियों का दर्द महसूस किया। करुणा, संवेदना और सबके सुख-दुख को समझना नेतृत्व की असली योग्यता बताई गई, इसलिए उसे भविष्य की ‘लेइमा’ घोषित किया गया।
